Blackmoor Farm Estate have been growing apples on the same site near Selbourne in Hampshire for four generations, since the 1920s.
Apples from this location have a great taste because of the growing conditions of the soil and the climate and the Estate grows both traditional and new varieties of English apples, pears and plums.
The family-run estate grows 20 varieties of apples including Cox’s, Bramley’s, Gala, Braeburn and traditional apples such as russets and Lord Lambourne.
Their apples are also used in Mr Whitehead’s Cider and aple juice, another HFM producer and they are planning to produce their own in house. They also sell delicious apple pies, cakes and apple chips at the markets.
William Wolmer of Blackmoor Estate says his personal favourite Blackmoor product is the Norfolk Royal Russet apple because of its fantastic nutty russet flavour with a smooth skin, so the texture and taste are a great combination and, he says, “You can’t go wrong with a Cox.”
William’s favourite aspect of Hampshire Farmers’ Markets is they get to meet the customer face to face, something that doesn’t happen when people buy at the supermarket. His favourite other HFM producers are Hidon Farm for their Guinea Fowl, Blackmoor Game, Itchen Valley and Kerri’s Catch.
